Goguryeo reached far into Manchuria and repelled repeated Chinese invasions — a campaign that helped bring down the Sui dynasty. Baekje had close ties with Japan and sent both monks and craftsmen there. The Silla tombs are undisturbed and full of gold crowns, because their construction of stone cairn over wooden chamber made them nearly impossible to rob.

Korea was divided into three kingdoms that fought for supremacy for seven centuries. Through them Chinese writing, Buddhism and crafts passed on to Japan. Silla finally won and united the peninsula.
