The empire developed its own alphabet on an Indian model and translated great quantities of Buddhist texts — many Sanskrit works survive today *only* in Tibetan, the originals having been lost in India. The peace with the Tang was carved on a stone pillar in Lhasa in 823, and it still stands.
For children
For two centuries Tibet was a military power controlling parts of the Silk Road, and in 763 it even took Chang'an. At the same time Buddhism arrived there and took a form later led by the Dalai Lama.
