"Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica" unified the laws of motion and universal gravitation into a single mathematical system, showing that heaven and earth obey the same rules. It was as much a philosophical revolution as a scientific one: the universe became a predictable mechanism you could calculate. Newton's method — mathematical model, testable prediction, quantitative verification — became the template for all later physics, and the Enlightenment's confidence in reason drew heavily on it.

Newton showed that the force pulling an apple down is exactly the same force that keeps the Moon in orbit. With a few formulas you could suddenly calculate where the planets would be a hundred years from now. It was the first time humans could predict the heavens.
